Shibuya Junction
The second stop was to the Shibuya junction - one of the most photographed junctions on the planet and a place where 5 roads converge and a set of zebra crossings allow for the rapid movement of people to the shopping areas or stations/subways. The reason its soo busy is because it is a transport hub and a huge shopping district so people are always passing through, but in the early evening as rush hour starts I find myself sitting in Starbucks on the South Eastern corner of the junction on the 2nd floor ;) Well this provides an excellent vantage point to watch the Ballet of umbrella wielding businessmen, women and shoppers surging in all directions each time the lights change, watching the drama unfold from my comfortable stall, I see brigades of umbrellas hunker together, like a Roman ‘Tortoise’ formation and shuffle across towards the station while the brimming mob coming the other way surges around them like salmon in a stream - Wonderful and a display which is free and goes on for hours ;)
