The Great Ocean Road by V-line public transport

Leaving Apollo Bay behind I board the V-line coach bound for Warrnanbool… The driver has a tight schedule to meet as it is the public bus for the route - but today there are only 4 passengers and 3 of those did not have a pre-booked ticket… So boarding the 53 seater it was choose your view :) I went for a window seat on the left of the coach in order to see the coastline rushing past and look down on the waves as we hug the coastal cliffs ;) However, the first hour of the route is through forest as it cuts of the cape - but soon returns to stunning coastal landscapes. The limestone coast opens up to reveal headlands and bays of exquisite beauty with multi coloured stacks standing in striking poses above the waves daring them to cut them down to stumps - the Geographical features are so clear and defined as to be used in several texts as examples and to see them in real life is wonderful. The coach stops at the 12 [6] Apostles for 30mins… Just enough time to walk quickly across to the viewing platforms and be mesmerised by the site of the waves crashing into the bases of these majestic rock features, the crowds have already gathered and there is some negotiation on viewing spots ;) but a friendly Ozzie helps me get a good snap. Walking around the platform it is possible to view the Apostles from several different angles as helicopters buzz overhead carrying the wealthier tourists for a 10min ride (hmmm next time)… Typically for the Australian government there signs concerning the dangers are very straight forwards (check photo)...
The Apostles site is not the only one along the coast and soon the driver has taken us a little further and shown us an enchanting Gorge, the outstanding Bay of islands, Razor rock and London Bridge, all limestone coastal features carved by the waves (and sub aerial processes)… A more wonderful coastal landscape I have yet to see and it deserves its place as one of the most photographed places in Oz. Fabulous.
Arriving at Warrnambool we are dropped at the bus/rail station and collected FREE by a member of staff from the ‘beach backpackers hostel’ using a four wheel drive vehicle (Luxury), this is of course because it is a 25min walk from the station.
